Asian American
Solidarity – Empowerment – Education – Dialogue – Study (SEEDS)
We are a team of UMass Boston based psychologists and psychology graduate students engaged in research, education, and activism to advance racial justice.
Solidarity by and for Asian Americans through promoting ally and accomplice development and unpacking the processes and meanings of fostering authentic, just relationships as the foundation of collective intersectional justice.
Education about how experiencing and resisting racism affects mental health, particularly for Asian Americans given our complex positionality and frequent invisibilization.
Empowerment for Asian Americans to resist racism, emphasizing the nuances and diverse approaches to resistance against racism and addressing harmful invitations for internalizing our own racism, such as the model minority myth.
Dialogue across differences focused on power, privilege, oppression, and positionality to foster authentic relationships, solidarity, and accountability. Dialogue specifically for Asian Americans to explore connections between mental health and experiences of racism, and promote resistance to intersectional oppressions.
Study through critical analysis and empirical research to investigate the effects of racism and resisting racism among Asian Americans.
What We Do

Research
As a research team, we conduct and disseminate quantitative and qualitative studies to promote our overall mission of addressing racial injustices from a psychological lens among Asian Americans to develop solidarity, activism, and allyship.
Education & Workshops
Both individually and collectively, we facilitate classes, workshops, and discussions for students, educators, psychologists, higher education personnel, and community groups/members focused on Asian American mental health. These includes the impact of racism and resistance, developing allies and fostering Asian American solidarity, visioning just and authentic relationships, and psychological approaches to activism (e.g., tactics for effective activism, capacity-building).
